BESTSELLING AUTHOR AND STUDIO 360 HOST TO SPEAK AT CAZENOVIA FORUM

Best-selling author, editor and radio host Kurt Andersen will discuss the recent financial crisis and its impact on our society at the Cazenovia Forum on Friday, September 10 at 7:00pm at the Catherine Cummings Theatre, 9 Lincklaen Street in Cazenovia. The event is free of charge and no reservations or tickets are required.

The title of Andersen’s lecture, “The Great American Reset: How We Got Here and What Happens Next,” is based on his recent bestselling book Reset, which explains why the current economic crisis is actually an historic moment of great opportunity to get ourselves and the nation back on track.

Andersen, who is described as a brilliant analyst and synthesizer of historical andcultural trends, is also the author of the novels Heyday and Turn of the CenturyHeyday was a New York Times bestseller that the The Los Angeles Times called “a major work.”  It was included on several best-books-of-the-year lists, including the New York Public Library’s, and won the Langum Prize as the best American historical novel of 2007.   The New York Times called Turn of the Century “wickedly satirical” and “outrageously funny” and one of its Notable Books of the year, while The Wall Street Journal called it a “smart, funny and excruciatingly deft portrait of our age.” Continue reading BESTSELLING AUTHOR AND STUDIO 360 HOST TO SPEAK AT CAZENOVIA FORUM

Demolition of historic Cazenovia home meets resistance

Developer David Muraco is anxious to see a historic building (the “Enders House”) he owns at the town/village edge removed as quickly as possible:

Muraco said, “I will continue with the process and I will get what I want.”

Muraco’s interests as a developer continue to run up against meet broad community concern:

The building was built around 1830 and includes a 19th century barn. Both the house and barn are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Although the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, that designation provides no protection,” said Barbara Clarke, of the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation, in a letter to the Town of Cazenovia Planning Board. “As long as an owner is not using public funds, there are no prohibitions against demolishing or moving a registered building.… Without a new location, these historic buildings are in jeopardy.”

Muraco maintains that the house should be moved.

“It was a nice house, but it’s gotta go somewhere. Right next door, or even move it across the street,” he said. “But I’m not gonna pay to move it, it’d be cheaper for me to demo it.”

Caz Action, a task force of parents, students, teachers and community members who came together in the wake of alcohol-related incidents, published its first Safe Homes directory last year with the names of about 40 families.
