The Matt Brewing Company of Utica has introduced Saranac Imperial IPA, an 8.5% ABV brew that's their first in a planned line of "big beers" designated as the "High Peaks" series. I've got a bottle and I'm looking forward to trying it... and really excited to hear about the plans for this line. Good work, Matt's!
Empire Brewing Company, once a mainstay of the Syracuse nightlife and brewing scene, abruptly closed in 2003 thanks to financial trouble at its non-Syracuse locations. As renovation on the building that once housed the brewery continue, rumors abound that it could reopen. Empire had decent beer, an unbeatable atmosphere, and great food. It was the perfect place for a casual lunch or dinner to anchor an afternoon or evening downtown. I hope they bring it back!
Apparently, the state of Maine feels that , thus corrupting them somehow into buying expensive imported beer. New York has joined opposition to these and other labels (including some showing classic turn-of-the-20th-century art with paintings of bare-breasted women. It's a relief to know that our liquor authorities are so dililgent in protecting our kids.
