Malt Advocate, a magazine promoting whiskey production and enjoyment, sponsors two "Whiskeyfest" events every year. The New York event normally happens in November, and this year it's November 8 at the Mariott Marquis hotel in Times Square. I will be there, camera in hand, and I hope to see you there as well.
A German brewer has come up with a system for condensing the size and duration of the brewing process by continuously infusing wort into yeast-lined cylinders. The system is closed (reducing the risk of contamination), it's small (reducing required floor space), and it's fast (because the yeast eat more efficiently and live far longer than in the traditional process). A commercial brewery has agreed to produce the required equipment and it looks like some commercial beers could be brewed this way very soon. I am intrigued - it could be a real boon to the microbrew industry.
Ommegang's Waffles and Puppets festival is this weekend; it's going to be great!
Here's my writeup from last year's event, which was spectacular despite miserable weather. This year's forecast looks much better.
Hope to see you three!
